Advantages of mains supplied smoke detectors

Since 1992 building regulations have required that at least one smoke alarm, wired directly to the mains, is installed in every new property. It is believed that many people living in new build houses are relying upon smoke alarms which could be in effect five years overdue for replacement.

There are various advantages of using mains operated smoke detectors over battery operated ones.

Mains operated detectors are more reliable as they have a constant flow of electricity too them, which is indicated by a green neon on the device so its easy to see that there’s power at it. They are also backed up by a battery incase of a power cut.

All the smoke detectors in the property can be linked together meaning when one of the devices is triggered they will all start in sounder mode.
